In 2012, GOS signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kingdom of Morocco’s National Bureau of Petroleum and Mines (ONHYM) for evaluation of Morocco’s oil shales in the Timahdit and Tarfaya deposits aspart of GOS’ world wide evaluation of commercial surface oil shale deposits.


Following a detaled analysis in April 2014 the company signed a specific MOU with ONHYM in relation to Permit 1 in Tarfaya South Oil Shale Deposit for the main use of production of shale oil as well as associated electricity and select building materials from the ash residue. GOS has completed comprehensive work in the oil shale block in accordance with the work program inclduing a drilling program and JORC level mining report by SRK Consulting confirming 1 billion tons of surface oil shale within the license area of the Permit 1 area. GOS is also a beneficiary of more than 30 years of historic work by Shell and others on oil shales in the world class Tarfaya deposit with approximately US$50 million historic spend by all parties on the Tarfaya deposit.


Currently GOS and its parent company Cemos Group Plc are completlng a work program for an initial launch for the production of electricity using the Tarfaya oil shales and targetting a completion of a mining and production license during 2017 – 2018 with ONHYM for this purpose. The reside ashes of the process are to be used for the production of cement and clinker in an Integrated Cement Plant (ICP) launched by Cemos Ciment S.A. in a related project and separate from the energy production focused MOU with ONHYM with the Tarfaya oil shale.
